wordpress

Well Here I am, I thought that blogging at blogger was the only free way so I didn't look much elsewhere. The church uses wordpress but every one I knew using wordpress has a name like blank.com or blank.org. So I heard that wordpress was upgrading things and they sure do look good on the blogs I read so I am going to try it out. Especially being it cost nilch! so if I like it and find it easier or better I will stay here.

Here is a copy of my first wordpress entry. I may do a permanent switch there. If I do you will find me here now:

The parable of the test

consider this
A teacher hands out a test and tells her students to read all of the questions on the test before filling in the test and that this would be a critical step in determining who passes the test and who wouldn't pass the test. So she hands out the test and the students start working feverishly to complete the test. One student took his test back up to the teacher and the teacher handed him a new one and He sat down and started to read that test to work on it as well. At the end of the class, the teacher collected the tests and told her students that the results of the test would be discussed first thing in the morning the next day. Many students wondered how they did on the test and even discussed how many of the answers on the multiple choice test did not fit the questions. and most of the students admitted that they never made it to the last question on the test. The next day after class started the teacher asked the students if they thought they passed the test, several students raised they hands in confidence. The teacher responded that only 1 student passed the test. every one gasped as wondered who was that smart that they could pass that test? The teacher explained, there were no right answers on that test. If you would have read through the test to the end before starting to answer the questions you would have seen that the very last question said to take the test back to the teacher and get a new one. Bill did just that and the new test was already filled in with the correct answers and told him to just put his name on the top of the test and turn it in at the end of the day. This is why all of you failed the test and Bill passed. All of the students were in shock at this and could not believe that it could have been that easy to pass the test, but it was too late for them. only Bill passed the test because He believed what the teacher said at the start of the test that it was a critical step to read the whole test before starting it.

It seems that we also have a test. are we listening to the teacher? He already has the answers filled in on this test as well all we have to do is believe him and put our name at the top and hand it in for He knew in advance that there would be no way that we could pass this test on our own so He came and took the test for us. If we believe that His answers on this test are correct and put out faith in Him, we will pass the test as Bill passed the test that the teacher gave out in the class, If we think that there is another way to pass the test we will fail because all of the answers that are on the test are wrong. So the decision is ours and it all boils down to this... Do we believe that Christ is the answer and turn in to God the test He gives us that is already filled in with the correct answers, or are we going to feverishly try to do the test on our own even though there are no correct answers on it? The choice has been left up to us.

Easter on the news

The church did another Easter Egg drop via Helicopter this year and it made the ABC news. how cool is that? The police estimated that there were near 2000 people in attendance for the Easter egg drop. There also was 1600 people that attended 1 of 4 Easter services that the church had this past weekend. It is so awesome to be given the privilege to be a part of something this cool and to be a part of what God is doing in this area.

Acts 8 (message)

9-11Previous to Philip's arrival, a certain Simon had practiced magic in the city, posing as a famous man and dazzling all the Samaritans with his wizardry. He had them all, from little children to old men, eating out of his hand. They all thought he had supernatural powers, and called him "the Great Wizard." He had been around a long time and everyone was more or less in awe of him.

12-13But when Philip came to town announcing the news of God's kingdom and proclaiming the name of Jesus Christ, they forgot Simon and were baptized, becoming believers right and left! Even Simon himself believed and was baptized. From that moment he was like Philip's shadow, so fascinated with all the God-signs and miracles that he wouldn't leave Philip's side.

14-17When the apostles in Jerusalem received the report that Samaria had accepted God's Message, they sent Peter and John down to pray for them to receive the Holy Spirit. Up to this point they had only been baptized in the name of the Master Jesus; the Holy Spirit hadn't yet fallen on them. Then the apostles laid their hands on them and they did receive the Holy Spirit.

18-19When Simon saw that the apostles by merely laying on hands conferred the Spirit, he pulled out his money, excited, and said, "Sell me your secret! Show me how you did that! How much do you want? Name your price!"

20-23Peter said, "To hell with your money! And you along with it. Why, that's unthinkable-trying to buy God's gift! You'll never be part of what God is doing by striking bargains and offering bribes. Change your ways-and now! Ask the Master to forgive you for trying to use God to make money. I can see this is an old habit with you; you reek with money-lust."

24"Oh!" said Simon, "pray for me! Pray to the Master that nothing like that will ever happen to me!"

Solomon told us in Ecclesiastes about how nothing really is new under the sun

Ecclesiastes 1:9 (New Living Translation) 9: History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new.

So it is today. we see that there are a lot of Simons today, Trying to use God to get Rich. This is known as the prosperity Gospel and is not what God intended when He told us to "test him and see" in Malachi. He was talking about Tithing to your house of worship, Giving with a glad and joyful heart. This is what He was talking about. Giving above and beyond that is not mandatary but a good way to show generosity which is a way of reflecting our God for the world to see. It is our love that draws people to Christ. Like Pastor reminded us yesterday in service, that threatening people to hell has never worked in getting people to serve God, if it had then Jesus would not have needed to come and die for us to give us a better way to God, which is by faith. Fear is not from God (For God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind). Check out the podcast from 03/16/2008 when you get a chance at www.orchardvalleyonline.com and click podcast when you get a chance. It is the last installment in the series "the other side" that has been talked about for the last three weeks.

internet frustration

I have seem to had the worst luck doing anything on the internet lately. I goggle something and next thing you know, I will have picked up a Trojan, or other nasty virus or hack file. It is incredibly irritating, and its is getting to the point where I am going to stop using any search engine, and if that doesn't work, I just may stop using the internet altogether. I have already stopped buying things online because you just cant seem to trust anyone on it to not sell your information to a spammer. It has been reported that many people who use the internet for making purchases find that their identities are getting compromised as well. With all of that nonsense going on it is no wonder that many people are giving up on PC's and going to a mac because it has a better security platform to it. But even then, it is just a matter of time before someone figures out a hack for the mac and then there will be no reason for high speed internet at least at my house. I will shut it down and go back to the old fashioned way of buying things and that is at a real store.
I wish that we had something like the site advisor (McAffee has one that gives you an indication of pop-ups and other nasties right from the search results page.) here, but even at home something on the PC side has blocked that from working and it only works on the mac now.  Best get off the soap box now, before I get too irritated.

flu,blue,etc

ugh, what a past couple of weeks. My daughter was the first to get it, must have got it from the school?!?, them Katy got it, then Marcus and Grandma, and then myself. I thought my immune was strong enough to ward of the attack but this one was a potent strain. it started off like a normal flu, but then became the flu on steroids. THis one gave you other things along with it to make you feel bad, like a serious cold, and now i have bronchitis to go with it all. and if that wasn't bad enough, the "good" car is broke down and stuck in the garage with no way to get it fixed outside of towing it and praying for a miracle to pay for it. It has been a tough two weeks.

latest pro-presenter update

After service on Sunday we updated our version of Pro-Presenter and noticed quite a grouping of changes. The GUI now has a more softer appearance with rounded corners on the buttons, There is 2 new buttons as well. The jump to logo looks pretty good, we can set that up in preferences/display and then point to what ever image file we like. I think that we would ourselves use the Mission statement as the Logo image. The second button is more exciting than the first as this is the Live Video button. We can now push that button and have whatever the camera is pointed at come up on the screen and still put song lyrics and what nots over the top of the video. I am looking forward to trying this out and seeing how it works. If you haven't updated your version of Pro-Presenter to this latest version, Go for it, it looks like it is going to be pretty cool.  The website also has more details on what all the new enhancements are. check those out HERE.

thinking

I read an entry from my good friend Pam on her blog about the thoughts she had when visiting the grand canyon. A good read in fact I like the clouds rolling away and the canyon becoming visible. As I was reading that a thought occurred to me from A song about how one day we will see our perception of reality rolled away like a scroll and all will see Christ coming down from the clouds.
The song it is well with my soul came to mind and near the end of the song this refrain is sung:

And Lord, haste the day when my faith shall be sight,The clouds be rolled back as a scroll; The trump shall resound, and the Lord shall descend,Even so, it is well with my soul.

The apprentice

It was early October 2004.

They were doing a new series at the church called The Apprentice. To kick off the series Pastor came out in a Donald trump wig and fired every one on the stage. It was incredibly funny. I only wish we could have got a picture of it. I was reminded today of Pastors passing in church tonight. Pastor Scott talked to us about death and the afterlife as we started a new series called the other side.

He opened the series up by re-telling of his own fathers death. maybe a week or two after the apprentice series started. October 20. I remember the day well as I got a call about it and just in disbelief could not accept it. I had lost my own father just short of a year ago by 2 weeks. But one thing we do know about death, and Scott taught us tonight about that and it is what the bible tells us, and that is to be absent from our body is to be present with the Lord. I believe that Larry and my dad Richard are both present with the Lord and in much better shape than they were down here. I tell you, I miss them both terribly but would not want to wish them back here because of the joy they they have now and the joy we will have when we finally get there ourselves.
