2 Timothy 3 (The Message) part 2

2 Timothy 3 (The Message)

Keep the Message Alive
10-13You've been a good apprentice to me, a part of my teaching, my manner of life, direction, faith, steadiness, love, patience, troubles, sufferings-suffering along with me in all the grief I had to put up with in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra. And you also well know that God rescued me! Anyone who wants to live all out for Christ is in for a lot of trouble; there's no getting around it. Unscrupulous con men will continue to exploit the faith. They're as deceived as the people they lead astray. As long as they are out there, things can only get worse.

14-17But don't let it faze you. Stick with what you learned and believed, sure of the integrity of your teachers-why, you took in the sacred Scriptures with your mother's milk! There's nothing like the written Word of God for showing you the way to salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another-showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God's way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us.

reading in 2nd Timothy

2 Timothy 3 (The Message)

Difficult Times Ahead
1-5Don't be naive. There are difficult times ahead. As the end approaches, people are going to be self-absorbed, money-hungry, self-promoting, stuck-up, profane, contemptuous of parents, crude, coarse, dog-eat-dog, unbending, slanderers, impulsively wild, savage, cynical, treacherous, ruthless, bloated windbags, addicted to lust, and allergic to God. They'll make a show of religion, but behind the scenes they're animals. Stay clear of these people.

6-9These are the kind of people who smooth-talk themselves into the homes of unstable and needy women and take advantage of them; women who, depressed by their sinfulness, take up with every new religious fad that calls itself "truth." They get exploited every time and never really learn. These men are like those old Egyptian frauds Jannes and Jambres, who challenged Moses. They were rejects from the faith, twisted in their thinking, defying truth itself. But nothing will come of these latest impostors. Everyone will see through them, just as people saw through that Egyptian hoax.

Sounds like Paul was writing to Timothy about today and some of the off the wall stuff that is being taught as fact on television. This is the main reason why we should also be reading the scriptures for ourselves so that the Holy Spirit can bring to remembrance the things that we have read that totally contradict some of the fluff that is being taught on T.V. God cares greatly what we believe and wants us to know the truth because the truth will set us free. so go to Bible gateway and start reading. It does the body good.

Matthew 6

Do Not Worry
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry ab! out tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

M & M's

Today Scott talked about M & M's and we found out that it is more than just a sweet chocolate candy that melts in your mouth and not in your hands. It is about our Money and Material possesions. We learned what Jesus said about where our treasure is there our hearts will be as well. We also learned that We do not own our stuff but it all does belong to God and We are managers of it. We also learned that we will give an accounting to God on how we managed his stuff.
Matthew 25:
The Story About Investment 14-18"It's also like a man going off on an extended trip. He called his servants together and delegated responsibilities. To one he gave five thousand dollars, to another two thousand, to a third one thousand, depending on their abilities. Then he left. Right off, the first servant went to work and doubled his master's investment. The second did the same. But the man with the single thousand dug a hole and carefully buried his master's money.
19-21"After a long absence, the master of those three servants came back and settled up with them. The one given five thousand dollars showed him how he had doubled his investment. His master commended him: 'Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.'
22-23"The servant with the two thousand showed how he also had doubled his master's investment. His master commended him: 'Good work! You did your job well. From now on be my partner.'
24-25"The servant given one thousand said, 'Master, I know you have high standards and hate careless ways, that you demand the best and make no allowances for error. I was afraid I might disappoint you, so I found a good hiding place and secured your money. Here it is, safe and sound down to the last cent.'
26-27"The master was furious. 'That's a terrible way to live! It's criminal to live cautiously like that! If you knew I was after the best, why did you do less than the least? The least you could have done would have been to invest the sum with the bankers, where at least I would have gotten a little interest.
28-30"'Take the thousand and give it to the one who risked the most. And get rid of this "play-it-safe" who won't go out on a limb. Throw him out into utter darkness.'

So it is about us managing Gods stuff, in a reponsible way and if we need more we have to trust that God will either give us more, give us wisdom to earn more or to limit the drain that happens when the economy does this "R" thing. And remember to give generously (reponsibly which doesn't mean padding the luxourious lifestyles of some of the religious tv preachers) but more of like giving to the church you call home, giving more to programs that help the needy and things that further the spreading of the very good news that God has provided us a way to go to heaven and His name is Jesus. (remember to share the GOOD news (telling the truth in love) about Gods grace, Mercy and forgivness, people already know how bad they are they don't need some judgemental Christian reminding them of it), It is the lifting up of Christ that draws men to Him. It is the Job of the Holy Spirit to convict people of their sins and it is Gods job to bring the lost sheep into the fold, but it is our job to show love to others and as it is written "They will know who are mine by their love".

Thoughts on Matthew 5 (Sermon on the mound)

Matthew 5 (MSG)

You're Blessed
1-2 When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said:

3"You're blessed when you're at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and his rule.

4"You're blessed when you feel you've lost what is most dear to you. Only then can you be embraced by the One most dear to you.

5"You're blessed when you're content with just who you are-no more, no less. That's the moment you find yourselves proud owners of everything that can't be bought.

6"You're blessed when you've worked up a good appetite for God. He's food and drink in the best meal you'll ever eat.

7"You're blessed when you care. At the moment of being 'care-full,' you find yourselves cared for.

8"You're blessed when you get your inside world-your mind and heart-put right. Then you can see God in the outside world.

9"You're blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That's when you discover who you really are, and your place in God's family.

10"You're blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God's kingdom.

11-12"Not only that-count yourselves blessed every time people put you down or throw you out or speak lies about you to discredit me. What it means is that the truth is too close for comfort and they are uncomfortable. You can be glad when that happens-give a cheer, even!-for though they don't like it, I do! And all heaven applauds. And know that you are in good company. My prophets and witnesses have always gotten into this kind of trouble.

When Jesus was teaching the crowds, He was teaching them how to live in a way that pleases God, He didn't condemn the crowds for their sin or evil ways although being God He had the right to, who did He condemn though? The Religious leaders and teachers of the law (Pharisees and Religious lawyers). They were taking Gods Principles and adding to them in such a way that not only was it impossible to follow them, but they were profiting from it and becoming rich. Today we have the same thing going on in a lot of the Televangelist, they are not there to teach Gods children the way to live, They are there to tell them what they want to hear and make a ton of money in the process. This is called the prosperity gospel, "The more you give to them the more God will give you", which is taking the verse in Malachi 3 and corrupting it for their own personal gain. but if you look earlier into Malachi you find this:

Malachi 2:7-9( MSG) "It's the job of priests to teach the truth. People are supposed to look to them for guidance. The priest is the messenger of God-of-the-Angel-Armies. But you priests have abandoned the way of priests. Your teaching has messed up many lives. You have corrupted the covenant of priest Levi. God-of-the-Angel-Armies says so. And so I am showing you up for who you are. Everyone will be disgusted with you and avoid you because you don't live the way I told you to live, and you don't teach my revelation truly and impartially."

You have to teach it the way it really is, God wants a relationship with us, He wants us to Love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Everything can be summarized into two things and Jesus told us what they were.

Love God

Love others.

Malachi also tells us in chapter 2 this:

13-15And here's a second offense: You fill the place of worship with your whining and sniveling because you don't get what you want from God. Do you know why? Simple. Because God was there as a witness when you spoke your marriage vows to your young bride, and now you've broken those vows, broken the faith-bond with your vowed companion, your covenant wife. God, not you, made marriage. His Spirit inhabits even the smallest details of marriage. And what does he want from marriage? Children of God, that's what. So guard the spirit of marriage within you. Don't cheat on your spouse.

Chapter 3 is what gets used to lure us into throwing money at the TV preachers but is this what God intended? Malachi 3 tells us:

8-11"Begin by being honest. Do honest people rob God? But you rob me day after day.

"You ask, 'How have we robbed you?'

"The tithe and the offering-that's how! And now you're under a curse -the whole lot of you-because you're robbing me. Bring your full tithe to the Temple treasury so there will be ample provisions in my Temple. Test me in this and see if I don't open up heaven itself to you and pour out blessings beyond your wildest dreams. For my part, I will defend you against marauders, protect your wheat fields and vegetable gardens against plunderers." The Message of God-of-the-Angel-Armies.

It was the pharisees that got the criticism in Jesus's day, They would come at Jesus with snippets of the Law and Jesus would tell them the whole truth and it always made them look just as bad as every one else. He did this to show them that no one is "good enough" to get to God by keeping the law, it can't be done (Jesus was the only one who could). It was by his sacrifice that gave us the privilege to come to God through faith in Him alone.

We all have this problem of becoming a pharisee and becoming judgmental, for God is the only judge of human motives because He is the only one who knows our true intentions. We are to Love and treat others fairly and justly.

Fwd: Diary of a Snow Shoveler

considering the snow we had this week, this was too funny not to share.

Diary of a Snow Shoveler

December 8: 6:00 PM.
It started to snow. The first snow of the season and the wife and I took our cocktails and sat for hours by the window watching the huge snow flakes drift down from heaven. It looked like a Grandma Moses Print. So romantic we felt like newlyweds again. I love snow!

December 9:
We woke to a beautiful blanket of crystal white snow covering every inch of the landscape. What a fantastic sight! Can there be a more lovely place in the whole world? Moving here was the best idea I've ever had. Shoveled for the first time in years and felt like a boy again. I did both our driveway and the sidewalks. 'This afternoon the snowplow came along and covered up the sidewalks and closed in the driveway, so I got to shovel again. What a perfect life.

December 12:
The sun has melted all our lovely snow. Such a disappointment. My neighbor tells me not to worry, we'll definitely have a white Christmas. No snow on Christmas would be awful! Bob says we'll have so much snow by the end of winter, that I'll never want to see snow again. I don't think that's possible. Bob is such a nice man I'm glad he's our neighbor.

December 14:
Snow lovely snow! 8" last night. The temperature dropped to -20. The cold makes everything sparkle so. The wind took my breath away, but I warmed up by shoveling the driveway and sidewalks. This is the life. The snowplow came back this afternoon and buried everything again. I didn't realize I would have to do quite this much shoveling, but I'll certainly get back in shape this way. I wish I wouldn't huff and puff so.

December 15:
20 inches forecast. Sold my van and bought a 4x4 Blazer. Bought snow tires for the wife's car and 2 extra shovels. Stocked the freezer. The wife wants a wood stove in case the electricity goes out. I think that's silly. We aren't in Alaska, after all.

December 16:
Ice storm this morning. Fell on my ass on the ice in the driveway putting down salt. Hurt like hell. The wife laughed for an hour, which I think, was very cruel.

December 17:
Still way below freezing. Roads are too icy to go anywhere. Electricity was off for 5 hours. I had to pile the blankets on to stay warm.
Nothing to do but stare at the wife and try not to irritate her. Guess I should've bought a wood stove, but won't admit it to her. I hate it when she's right. I can't believe I'm freezing to death in my own living room.

December 20:
Electricity's back on, but had another 14" of the damn stuff last night. More shoveling. Took all day. Damn snowplow came by twice. Tried to find a neighbor kid to shovel, but they said they're too busy playing hockey. I think they're lying. Called the only hardware store around to see about buying a snow blower and they're out. Might have another shipment in March. I think they're lying. Bob says I have to shovel or the city will have it done and bill me. I think he's lying.

December 22:
Bob was right about a white Christmas because 13 more inches of the white crap fell today, and it's so cold it probably won't melt till August. Took me 45 minutes to get all dressed up to go out to shovel and then I had to piss. By the time I got undressed, pissed and dressed again, I was too tired to shovel. Tried to hire Bob, who has a plow on his truck for the rest of the winter; but he says he's too busy. I think the jerk is lying.

December 23:
Only 2" of snow today. And it warmed up to O. 'The wife wanted me to decorate the front of the house this morning. What is she nuts!!! Why didn't she tell me to do that a month ago? She says she did but I think she's lying.

December 24:
6". Snow packed so hard by snowplow, I broke the shovel. Thought I was having a heart attack. If I ever catch the son of a b---- who drives that snowplow, I'll drag him through the snow by his balls. I know he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then
he comes down the street at a 100 miles an hour and throws snow all over where I've just been! Tonight the wife wanted me to sing Christmas carols with her and open our presents, but I was busy watching for the damn snowplow.

December 25:
Merry Christmas. 20 more inches of the #%&*$@ slop tonight. Snowed in. The idea of shoveling makes my blood boil. I hate the snow! Then the snowplow driver came by asking for a donation and I hit him over the head with my shovel. The wife says I have a bad attitude. I think she's an idiot. If I have to watch "It's a Wonderful Life" one more time, I'm going to kill her.

December 26:
Still snowed in. Why the hell did I ever move here? It was all HER idea. She's really getting on my nerves.
December 27:
Temperature dropped to -30 and the pipes froze.

December 28:
Warmed up to above -50. Still snowed in. THE HAG is driving me crazy!!!

December 29:
10 more inches. Bob says I have to shovel the roof or it could cave in. That's the silliest thing I ever heard. How dumb does he think I am?

December 30:
Roof caved in. The snow plow driver is suing me for a million dollars. The wife went home to her mother. 9" predicted.

December 31:
Set fire to what's left of the house. No more shoveling.

January 8:
I feel so good. I just love those little white pills they keep giving me. Why am I tied to the bed?

song going through my head

I was sitting, thinking working and this song popped into my head. Brings back memories of days gone by.

Tom Petty - Refugee Lyrics

We got somethin', we both know it,
We don't talk too much about it.
Ain't no real big secret all the same,
somehow, we get around it.

It don't really matter to me, baby,
You believe what you want to believe,
You don't have to live like a refugee.
(Don't have to live like a refugee)

Somewhere, somehow,
Somebody must have kicked you around some.
Tell me why you wanna lay there and revel in your abandon.

It don't make no difference to me, baby,
Everybody's had to fight to be free,
You see you don't have to live like a refugee.
(Don't have to live like a refugee)

Baby, we ain't the first.
I'm sure a lot of other lovers been burned.
Right now this seems real to you,
But it's one of those things you gotta feel to be true.

Somewhere, somehow,
Somebody must have kicked you around some.
Who knows? Maybe you were kidnappe! d,
Tied up, taken away, and held for ransom.

It don't really matter to me, baby,
Everybody's had to fight to be free,
You see you don't have to live like a refugee.

memories

The cutest thing about T.C. was all of the strange places He liked to sleep. whether it was on top of the fish tank or on my shoulder He could make himself comfortable just about anywhere. During Christmas you could always find him under the tree. He like to go for rides to the kitchen riding on my shoulder. When I was still a driver for the company I work for, I inherited a dog from one of the other workers who moved to an apartment and could not keep him. He was a cocker spaniel and He was 7 when we got him and probally had him another 8 years after that. The cat and dog liked each other and got along pretty well. The cat of course was king of the roost and the dog knew it. The first dog I hade was a springer spaniel with some pointer named Miss C, she loved to go fishing with Katy and me.

Today I had to say goodbye to my best friend. after almost 19 years of life, my cat T.C. had to put put to sleep. We are very sad.
