As I go through the video's for visual basic 2005, There are several things taht i am starting to recognize that are the same with what I do in cobol programming. So far I am on lesson 3 and some of the coding techniques are quite similar and this should be a great help in learning as well. Like in commenting in a line of code, If you want to put a brief explanation to what a line of code does you would start it with a ' so a comment would look like this: 'This is a comment in a line of code.
In cobol a comment ' starts in column 7 and everything after that is ignored by the compiler and is considered code till the end of the line. If you wish to continue onto the next line, you would use a new comment indicator at column 7 '.
